From one Wall to another / D'un Mur à l'autre, Favela Dona Marta, Rio, June 2012

Having documented for years the building of the Wall in Palestine by Israel, I was shocked when I heard walls were also being built around some favelas (now in Brazil, many people are advocating to stop using the term "favela" and prefer to use the more neutral term "communities"). I wanted to see by myself and ask the inhabitants how they feel about it. The official justification in Dona Marta was the necessity of preserving the green areas around, but we can assume it is much more about security; meaning the "security of the rich" and containing the natural expansion of the community.
